Query Data Backup

It is possible to create file backups of your BW queries. This is especially useful in cases where you are not sure if a query should be considered during your BW/4HANA migration or not. You can create a backup of that query to migrate it at a later point in time. This works, even if your old BW system where the query was located is not available anymore.

The function "Query Data Backup" is part of the Migration Booster:

Query Selection

To select the queries for export, you first need to choose a BW System. You can choose from all systems, which were set as a source system in the migration project. Please also refer to Project Creation. After the system selection, all queries are shown. You can either use the multiline filter or the filter line above the list to search for queries. To select the queries for export you need to select them and move them to the right workspace:

The export is not possible in the following cases:

  • The query to be exported is a 3.x query

  • The query is based on an InfoProvider which is not of type InfoCube, DSO, MultiProvider or HANA Composite Provider

  • The underlying InfoProvider has no entry in table TADIR (activating the InfoProvider might solve this conflict)

In the next step, a target path needs to be selected. All query backup files will be written to this location.

Query Export

The export can be started by clicking on "Start Export". The document generation window will open and provide information on the export status:

For each selected query one backup file in a specific performer suite file format is created.

The exported files must never be manipulated. In case they were manipulated, we cannot guarantee that the query copy will work.

Query Copy

The query copy based on a backup file is done via the function "Copy Reporting Elements". Here you will find a new option called "Select from backup file".

This option allows you to upload a backup file, which you created before. The remaining steps to copy the query are the same as for the usual query copy. Please refer to Copying a Query.
