Application Scenarios

Copying a Query to another InfoProvider

For example, if all InfoObjects of an InfoProvider have been renamed, copied (see chapter Copying Objects) and exported to an SAP System (see chapter Copy Reporting Elements), a Query which is defined on the original InfoProvider can be copied to the new InfoProvider.

Initially, the Tool to copy Queries needs to be started. Source- and target system, InfoProvider and Query must be selected and the “Next” button pressed.

By activating “Execute consistency checks” the status of many Query Elements will be highlighted red.  The color indicates emerging issues with the Elements concerned.

Due to the fact that the Query is supposed to be copied to an InfoProvider with different InfoObjects, the Tool indicates in the column “Status” that Objects are missing.

However, when InfoObjects are copied and renamed in a Modeling Project, the Module memorizes these name changes.  The function “Propose replacements of tech. names” proposes the new, renamed Technical Names of the InfoObject (if available).

These are just suggestions and changes can be made manually by the User, for example switching two InfoObjects in the Query Definition (see Screenshot with a Consistency Re-Check). In this case not only are the Source-InfoObjects replaced by the Target-InfoObjects but also are the two Target-InfoObjects T_SR_SCVA and T_SR_POTA reversed.

The still red-highlighted rows are for example Calculated, Restricted Key Figures or Variables. Variables can be reused if created in the same InfoObject as before. If the InfoObject has been changed, the Technical Name of the Variable has to be adapted as well. Each Variable needs to have a unique and therefore explicit name. The same is also true for Restricted and Calculated Key Figures, which have to be renamed too.

Doing another Consistency Check, the Elements to be created should be valid and highlighted in blue (in this case Variables, Restricted and Calculated Key Figures).

After clicking the “Apply target values” and “Start creation” buttons a new Query including the Elements which had to be created is completed.
